Our Charity Partner
Thank You to Our Project Sponsors!
Without them this project would not be possible . . . or nearly as cool!
A build of this magnitude is only possible through partnership with some great companies providing some of the best products/services in the industry. In addition to our phenomenal build partner, Extreme Automotive, a series of other companies are also supporting Project Swoopy:
Extreme Automotive is one of the premier hot rod shops in Southern California who is celebrating their 20th year of being in business. That commendable goal is due to their ability to fabricate some the finest hot rods and street rods for longer than many shops have even been open for business. In addition to being featured in leading publications, including Street Rodder and Street Rod Builder, Extreme Automotive was selected as Builder of the Year during the 2009 Grand National Roadster Show! In other words, they have definitely earned their well deserved reputation. At Extreme Automotive, they definitely put the customer first! Whether you’re needing a minor repair, full restoration, or custom design and fabrication for your one-off creation, Extreme Automotive is your one and only hot rod shop. With over 35 years of experience, Extreme Automotive has the technical expertise, innovation, and industry partnerships to ensure your expectations are fully met.
Pride, Efforts, Results…that is more than just a catchy phrase at Extreme Automotive. It reflects their professional, and personal, philosophy that is reflected in their completed projects, national recognition, as well as their long-lasting relationships with customers. They truly love cars, the life style, and can’t wait to open the shop doors each and every day. While Extreme is known for Pride, Efforts, and Results, we also found them to be more than willing to listen to what WE wanted. One of the most rewarding part of the Swoopy build process is being continually engaged throughout and also having the team at Extreme Automotive take our ideas and make them even better! And as Phil has said more than once: “that is an old school hand shake guarantee!
From the very beginning of this build, we knew our paint of choice was DuPont Hot Hues, which is the custom finishes product line in the DuPont Refinish brand of automotive paints.
We chose DuPont Hot Hues™ because they provide a wide variety finishing products for custom projects and original OEM colors for restoration projects.
Hot Hues™ offers the coolest solid, metallic, pearlescent and special-effect colors. Custom colors can be created using the Hot Hues™ color offering by adding Hot Efx™ pearls and other special effect pigments to any of the Hot Colors Basecoats. Hot Hues™ features popular colors like Midori Sour and Green Xtreme (greens), Blue Mood and Sapphire Trance (blues), and Medieval Forest and Shamrock (greens). Our personal choice is Sinful Cinnamon, since the dramatic bronze and copper hues really captured the unique paint perspective this build demanded. Plus, Swoopy is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, the "Sin City"...
By the way, one of the most popular components of their website is the Hot Hues™ Paint Shop, which is a free, web-based program that allows users to “paint” a virtual vehicle, choosing from an array of Hot Hues™ Custom Finishes. This program allows the custom vehicle pictures to be printed, and provides a list of all the necessary Hot Hues™ materials required to bring the virtual paint scheme to reality. You can link to the Hot Hues paint shop using this link: http://www.pc.dupont.com/dpc/en/US/html/visitor/b/hh/s/color/HH_PaintShop.html
When you have paint product needs, we highly recommend that you contact your local DuPont representative and let DuPont Hot Hues™ help you "unleash the color" on your next project! To find out more, go to: www.hothues.dupont.com.
When we wanted to have a unique set of gauges, naturally we went to Classic Instruments, since they have been in the instrument business for over 30 years. To ensure a long-lasting, high quality product, each and every one of their gauges is designed, assembled and calibrated with pride and quality at their facility in Boyne City, Michigan. They proudly fly "Made in the USA" and their products are designed and built for street rods by street rodders! Classic Instruments is the first and only manufacturer to combine all-electrical instrumentation and micro-chip technology with the finest quality, accuracy, and vintage styling available at any price. When we found a gauge cluster from a 1934 Plymouth (only year for this unique design and definitely very swoopy looking) that needed to have "face lift", Classis Instruments was our natural choice. Of even greater importance to us was their ability to refurbish old gauges so that they function, and look, even better than new!
We teamed with Steele Rubber for two reasons: 1) they provide a “Complete Solution” when purchasing their rubber parts and weather stripping, and 2) they actually had product for a 1947 Dodge! We know that there are a lot of companies that offer parts, but only Steele Rubber Products provides the combination of parts, service and knowledge you expect from an industry leader. Their commitment to quality includes an in-depth inspection of each part as well as an in-depth knowledge of the best application for your ride.
Holley products have been the undisputed leader in fuel systems for over 100 years. Holley carburetors have powered every NASCAR® Sprint® Cup team and every NHRA® Pro–Stock champion for four decades. Their products include performance fuel pumps, fuel injection, intake manifolds, cylinder heads, and engine dress–up products for street performance, race and marine applications. To ensure our 392 HEMI has a reliable flow of fuel, we chose to run twin Holley four barrel carburetors.
When we started looking a company for our chrome plating needs, we quickly realized how few companies have the commitment to quality that was so essential for this build. Luckily, we were referred to Steve and Sheri Tracy of Advanced Plating. They appreciate the importance of the finished product versus rushing to get the job completed as soon as possible. In fact, their goal is to not be the biggest or fastest, just simply the best. Based upon the results of their efforts for Swoopy, including chroming our twin Holley carburetors, we highly recommend you contact Advanced Plating for all of your plating needs.
We originally met Ron at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway many years ago when his son Ryan was competing in the NHRA Junior Dragster program. After seeing build photos during a subsequent LA Roadster Show, in Pomona, CA, Ron immediately stated: “we HAVE to do your interior!” That was fortunate for us, since Ron was the only interior shop we wanted to work with. In addition to Ron’s commitment to meeting schedule and ensuring customer satisfaction, Ron also has the incredible ability to evolve, both in design as well as function. While some interior shops are known for only one type of interior, Ron continually to demonstrates his ability to push the envelope. With this background, Ron was our interior shop of choice. Then again, Mary instantly feel in love his work as well as his ideas for Swoopy, so I didn't really have a vote.
When we started this “little” project, we had a few mandatory requirements for our build: 1) it has to be smooth; 2) it has to be a Mopar; and 3) it has to be powered by an early HEMI. To ensure we had a reliable power plant, we were very fortunate to be introduced to Bob and Debra Walker of Hot Heads Research and Racing. This couple of one those rare group of people who truly love what they do and place customer satisfaction above all else. When we visited their amazing facility in Low Gap, NC, they even made us stay for dinner! Bob also willingly provides his extensive knowledge of early HEMIs to anyone who willing to learn. In addition, Hot Heads Research and Racing has developed a wide variety of aluminum replacement parts, including heads and intake manifolds. Our 392 HEMI now weighs less than a big block Chevy and (in our opinion) is a lot cooler that your average belly button motor. Like Bob says: “Thanks for helping us keep the Fire Power lit!”
Over the years, we have been very fortunate to become friends with numerous icons of the hot rod and motorsports worlds, including one incredibly talented artist, Kenny Youngblood. Kenny credits his talent to his mother, and his career is as far reaching as his ability to capture the essence of a NHRA Top Fuel Dragster launch or, in the case of Swoopy, being able to capture our vision well before its completion. Over the years, Youngblood’s friends called him "Blood" for short, so he signs his work "Blood Did It". Today, Kenny is seen more frequently on TV and as a celebrity guest at major car shows and events across the country, including Darryl Starbird's Shows, the Detroit Autorama and the Grand National Roadster Show. When you're ready for an professional rendering of your favorite ride, or proposed project, Kenny Youngblood is simply the best!
ididit incorporated has been in business since 1986 and to be in business that long a company has to have a great product line and exceptional customer service. We've found ididit to not only meet these goals but they also provide the type of steering column and keyless ignition system that met the needs for our specific build. Their keyless ignition system increases the security for Swoopy by eliminating the ability to hot wire the ignition. In addition to their great products, the knowledgeable ididit team consists of "cars guys & gals" through and through. Their product line doesn’t just stop at steering columns & accessories for cars or trucks either, they also manufacture steering columns for many brands of golf carts!
